The government has announced a support package for businesses throughout winter.
What support will businesses receive?
After the government announced aid for household energy bills, many businesses were left with the same question – does the energy price cap apply to businesses? In short, no, but tailored support has since been announced for businesses.
The Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) will ensure wholesale gas and electricity prices are fixed for a period of 6 months, with a review set to take place after 3 months.
Gas per MWh | Electricity per MWh | |
Current expected rate | £180 | £600 |
New expected rate | £75 | £211 |
Who is eligible for the support package?
The Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS) is available to the following:
- Businesses
- Charities and not-for-profits
- Hospitals, schools, care homes and other public sector organisations
Who are:
- on existing fixed price contracts that were agreed on or after 1st April 2022
- signing a new fixed price contract
- on a deemed or out of contract variable tariff
- on flexible purchase (or similar) contracts
How will businesses receive the support?
Companies will not be required to contact their supplier to receive the discount. Instead, it will be automatically applied to bills as a discounted rate. You will not need to take any action or sign up to the scheme.
