Advice on Cloud Accounting Software

Research has shown that many of our clients are not aware of what “cloud accounting software” means and how it may be suitable for their business. This article aims to address that and give people some good general advice on cloud accounting software, and the benefits to businesses of using cloud accounting.

The world of technology moves and adapts extremely quickly and is an ever-changing entity.

What is cloud storage?

Cloud-based storage is a term that refers to a system where files are stored on a remote server (not in your office) and are able to be accessed anywhere that you have an internet connection. With a secure server and strong login credentials (usernames and passwords) in place, you can be assured that only authorised users will have access to these files.

What does cloud accounting software do?

A lot of accountancy software packages can be compared to a sledgehammer on a nut, very powerful but extremely difficult to use. The majority of software packages are not fit for purpose when dealing with small to medium-sized businesses. However, on the flip side, spreadsheets do not offer the level of technical detail or accuracy that is required. This is where cloud-based programs provide the solutions that accountants have been craving.

Cloud accounting software allows you to keep track of your books wherever you are in the world. You can have multiple users working on the software simultaneously in real-time. Additionally, your accountant can access cloud-based files to work alongside you, without you having the inconvenience of making a trip into the office.

Which cloud accounting software should I use?

We highly recommend businesses spend some time figuring out what cloud accounting software to use. It is very important to feel comfortable with the software you use and not be constantly encountering technical difficulties. Generally, though, we tend to favour Xero, Quickbooks and FreeAgent.
