Great Yarmouth School Pupils Benefit From Over 1600 Illustrated Dictionaries

July 2015

In 2014, we took the opportunity to support the Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary Club and sponsor their Dictionary Donation Project. The initiative was set up to provide every Year 4 pupil in Great Yarmouth with the Usbourne Illustrated Dictionary within a year.

The donation drive was a success and the Rotary Club was able to purchase over 1600 dictionaries for children in Year 3 and 4 in the Yarmouth and Gorleston area. The initiative was part of a commitment to improve education in the area, and improve the long-term development of young students.

Philip Hunt, Tax Consultant at Aston Shaw commented, “We are thrilled to be able to support young people in the local area and the wider community, of which Aston Shaw has been a part of for the last 10 years. We urge other businesses in the community to follow our lead and help the Haven Rotary Club with next years pledge”.

Robert Lovick, member of the Haven Rotary Club, says the drive is being renewed next year and they hope to provide over 850 dictionaries to Year 3 pupils in September 2016. Lovick also said the Rotary Club will be getting feedback from the schools to see the effect on progress since the dictionaries had been introduced.

We were delighted to see that 28 letters of thanks were sent to the Haven Rotary Club from the year 4 students who received the illustrated dictionaries. One of the students said the illustrated dictionary “makes it so much more interesting”.
